Marnie bows her head and sits down awkwardly. Her skirt wasn't designed as beachwear and the water's made it heavy and stiff. Thankfully, the island is camera-free so far. "Cheers," she murmurs, focused on the cards rather than the other girl.
"Or a very solid ghost," Marnie replies, then purses her lips together. No one in her family has a healthy sense of humor, but Marine at least has some hindsight. "No, it's quite a good thing. I've come across three, present company excluded."
She takes her hand and gives it a brief, weak-wristed shake. "Marnie, hello, likewise." It's easy to force a smile, though she quickly lets it fade. It's equally easy to feign concern she doesn't yet feel. "How are you coping?"
