Things that would be cool right now:
An IV of tea
paracetemol for the worst headache ever
new clothes
At least the river means being able to wash and drink, but it's doing nothing to cure the other two. Working on a cure for her headache, Mari's retired to the beach with her pack of cards. In the shade from a palm, she deals herself out a hand of solitaire and starts playing. With almost every move she makes though, she glances up to look out over the ocean.
Still no help?
"What is this, the Bermuda triangle?"

"Hello?" she murmurs, scrunching her eyebrows together when she notices Mari's playing cards with herself. Cards. She has about a hundred games on her laptop, which most certainly hasn't survived the crash, but the cards are still readable from several feet away. "Do you mind if I-" Marnie bows her head, her stiff, salty curls swinging into her face. "Mind if I join you?"

Sweeping up the cards, she shuffles them lethargically, trying to recall two person games. "Another survivor? There's getting to be more and more of us, aren't there?"
Leaning back, she holds up a sand-covered hand to shake. "I'm Mari, nice to meet you."

"Or a very solid ghost," Marnie replies, then purses her lips together. No one in her family has a healthy sense of humor, but Marine at least has some hindsight. "No, it's quite a good thing. I've come across three, present company excluded."
She takes her hand and gives it a brief, weak-wristed shake. "Marnie, hello, likewise." It's easy to force a smile, though she quickly lets it fade. It's equally easy to feign concern she doesn't yet feel. "How are you coping?"

"Coping?" Mari thinks about it for a little while, looking down at her cards. She's been trying her best not to think about anything, that's how she's been coping. "I don't want to talk about coping," she says finally, after mining her brain. "I'm doing alright at the moment. That's all I want to focus on. How are you feeling?"
Three is a good number, an encouraging number. Mari rubs her shoulder and stares at the deck of cards before looking back up at the other girl. "You're English?"
